The good news is businesses can now operate under COVID-19 Alert Level Two. Alert Level Two means workers and customers can return to the worksite, so long as it is safe – this includes hairdressers, beauty therapists, hospitality and other service industries.
The challenge at Alert Level Two will be ensuring that physical distancing and hygiene standards are maintained.
It will also be necessary to have an appropriate health and safety plan in place for every business operating under Level Two.
The rules set out for hospitality are described as the 3S’:
- Seated: maximum of 100 people in the facility as long as they are seated.
- Separated: physical distancing 2m apart from each table;
- Single server: Each table must be served by a single server who attends to only that table during the event.
In all instances, contract tracing must occur this includes outside the venue as well – that is those who have been standing in line, and you must ensure that they are distanced while doing so.
You do not need to stick to your bubble and so this is not a concern in the workplace under Alert Level Two.
Travel is back up and running and can be undertaken so long as social distancing and hygiene requirements are met.
Schools will open a week after all other businesses’ and will need to ensure hygiene and social distancing is adhered to (which we acknowledge will have its own challenges).
As with Alert Three, we are anticipating that WorkSafe will require you to have a health and safety plan prior to commencing work.
Morrison Kent’s health and safety experts can provide advice and prepare health and safety plans for businesses for Alert Level Two. We will work with you and discuss how you conduct your business and what risks are imposed or concerns are raised regarding social distancing and worker/public safety and well-being.
We can advise on the appropriate controls that are to be put in place based on the work you do and your physical environment, in addition, we can advise on managing health and safety risks in general.
