Our History

Morrison Kent’s history of providing legal services can be traced back to the 1920s, over 90 years ago. The firm has changed shape and name over the years, settling on the name Morrison Kent in 1996. Throughout its rich history the firm has produced many Judges, including a Supreme Court Judge (Sir John Jefferies) and a Governor General (Sir Michael-Hardie Boys). Morrison Kent continues to maintain excellent standards of legal advice and a commitment to quality service which results in its quality reputation continuing to grow.

In the community

As a provider of legal services, a key motivator for Morrison Kent is the desire to help others find solutions and reach their goals. That’s why we enjoy involvement in the community providing support in various ways. Many of our staff contribute their time and services as individuals in the community and as a firm Morrison Kent also supports a number of groups with charitable objectives. This support has usually come about through work that our clients are doing or that our staff are personally involved in. Morrison Kent is currently providing support to and would like to promote the following:

Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation

The key principles of the Foundation are to offer mentoring, financial support and career assistance to the most talented, totally dedicated young New Zealand singers and musicians and help them to succeed internationally.

The New Zealand Portrait Gallery

Morrison Kent is proud to sponsor the New Zealand Portrait Gallery which is a unique institution, the only Gallery in the country devoted to the celebration of our national identity through the faces of our people.  It is committed both to the promotion of portraiture and to recording and examining the country’s biographical record through depiction of New Zealanders past and present through a variety of media.

The Gallery’s permanent home and exhibition space is in Shed 11, a heritage building on Wellington’s Waterfront. Home to a growing collection of portraits, our collection includes paintings, sculptures, caricatures, photography and new media. Volunteer Wellington

Sourcing volunteers can be a difficult task for groups to do individually, requiring considerable resources. Your support of Volunteer Wellington will assist us to continue to facilitate the efficient process of sourcing and referring more people to our member organisations and making our communities stronger and more vibrant.
