Privacy

The introduction of the Privacy Act in 1993 established a set of “privacy principles“ which apply to the collection, storage and use of personal information.  Since then the Courts have recognised civil claims for breach of privacy, and some high profile “celebrity” cases have explored the extent to which the Courts are able to protect privacy and provide remedies.
We advise on all aspects of privacy law and related issues including:

  • Privacy Act requests
  • Complaints to Privacy Commissioner
  • Claims for breach of privacy/breach of confidence
  • Health Information Privacy Code and other privacy codes.

We can also advise on the Official Information Act 1982 and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
